A Loaded Leap of Faith

The Weekender

What do you do when you see someone committing a crime whether in person, video surveillance, or even in a movie? What do you do when it hits a nerve? If you are Jan Wolbrecht, you get an idea.

Jan's idea came when she saw these scenarios and asked, how do you keep yourself from becoming a victim? You learn to shoot. But watch out, you may really like it! That’s exactly what happened to Jan, and here’s the rest of the story.

She wanted to carry a concealed handgun, and took the first important steps of learning firearm safety and how to shoot. She could find purses and bags designed for concealed carry and did that for a while. But she really wanted to carry the firearm closer and more readily accessible which meant carrying on

her body.

So, she went shopping at big box stores and online, but couldn't find any clothing that didn't give away the fact that she had a gun. Most of the clothing meant for concealed carry are designed for military, first responders, or competitive shooters and look very tactical. They are sturdy clothes which won’t tear if one runs through a briar patch, but she wasn't looking for that. She wanted clothing that was fashionable, but discreetly concealed a handgun. There just wasn’t anything suitable.

The Tulip Dress

When she couldn't find the sort of concealed carry clothing she wanted, she contemplated creating a line of clothes that would fit her needs. For a while, she did nothing with her idea, but as time passed, the idea nagged and nagged at her. She turned to her faith and prayed that she would get a sign to confirm that she was supposed to take this journey. She prayed that if she saw an owl, the symbol of her brand, or heard the word, “incognito”, the name she was thinking of for the brand, then she would know that she was destined to start a clothing line.

Soon she got her sign. An owl, the nocturnal creature she had prayed about, flew right in front of her and landed on the trunk of a tree in the middle of the day! When she saw this, she was ready to take a leap of faith. In May of this year, she launched the Incognito Wear IX line of clothing. Her initial women’s collection consists of two tops and two dresses. Soon she will put out a fall line for 2016, and in 2017, she'll launch a men's line. The goal of all her products is to take away the worry and hassle of dressing for concealment which empowers her clients to carry every day.

Below is the Boardwalk. In the picture on the left the model shows where the handgun is concealed.
