Family Tradition Lives at Rhodes Family Bakery
When I volunteered to bring a dessert to my son's fencing party, I thought the fencers deserved something better than the cakes that are available at the local grocery or big box stores. As usual, I had procrastinated and needed a cake that afternoon. I remembered that Rhodes Family Bakery made a delicious and beautiful cake for my daughter's baptism and gave them a call. I really didn't think they could accommodate me in such a short time, but George told me he would have it ready in an hour. I was delighted to pick up a delectable and decorated cake to take to the team's party. The team and coaches were thrilled with the delicious cake.
Rhodes Bakery's products are so delicious because they still use the same recipes and ingredients Magdaline Rhodes used when she started the baking business in Atlanta during the Great Depression. Using Mrs. Rhodes original practices might be costlier than using preservatives and generic ingredients, but the products are far superior to other baked goods on the market. Magdaline's grandsons and great-grandson continue her business today and think she would be proud that her traditions of excellence survive today at Rhodes Family Bakery.
I stopped by the bakery on October 30th to take a few pictures. Here are a few of the fun birthday cakes they had prepared for clients.
What a lucky little girl Hadley is. She is having a spa themed party with a cake from Rhodes.
#6 Cannon is getting a jersey cake.
Minions are so cute! All kids seem to love them.
This cake was prepared for a baby shower. It looks as if Baby Noah is a future Star Wars fan - or at least his parents want him to be one.
Rhodes Family Bakery makes more than just cakes. Here's an assortment of pastries that were ready for any customer who stopped in.
My favorite products at Rhodes are the iced cookies. They always have an assortment of cookies that are decorated according to the season. In the summer and spring, flowers and butterflies are available. Right now it's football season so Rhodes made cookies for Georgia and Georgia Tech fans. If you want a special cookie made, you can bring in the cookie cutter and Rhodes will make and ice the cookies to your specifications.
I stopped in the day before Halloween and found these cute cakes.
Here is Sylvia making a gorgeous castle cake.
George Rhodes estimates they make 75 wedding cakes a year at the Roswell location.
